1. I'm not an athlete. Can I still come to Muscleworks?

Of course you can. Every successful business needs a passion, and our passion is working with athletes. But we can provide massage just for relaxation, or stress relief, or to work on a work- related muscle strain.

2. Do you take cheques? What methods of payment do you take?

We take cash, VISA, Mastercard and Amex. We are an approved provider for Great-West Life's new electronic network, which means that we can invoice them directly if you have the SolutionsPlus electronic card that they provide. Otherwise we provide written receipts that you can submit to your benefit plan if you have one.

3. Do I have to get naked?

The short answer is "no." As massage therapists we can work through clothing, but normally we would have you strip down to your underwear privately, and then get onto the table and cover yourself with a sheet before we enter the room. Most clients wear only underwear and we drape and undrape with the sheet so that only the area of the body we are working on is exposed. We respect your privacy, and whatever level of modesty is comfortable for you. We will ask you about your preferences on your first visit, and will accommodate whatever type of clothing arrangement you need to make you feel at ease.

4. What kinds of massage do you do?

We draw from a number of techniques based on a thorough assessment of your postural alignment and functional muscle testing. Our massage techniques have evolved as the result of years of practical experience, ongoing continuing education and experience working collaboratively with other health professionals.

5. How much is your senior's discount? How old do you have to be?

The senior's discount is available to clients who are retired or over the age of 65. Please see our Services and Fees page for more information.

6. How much is your student's discount? Who does it apply to?

The student discount is available to anyone who is enrolled in school. Please see our Services and Fees page for more information.

7. Are you wheelchair accessible?

We are not wheelchair accessible at present (we have four steps plus a threshold at our front entrance).

8. What is the difference between a registered massage therapist and a non-registered one?

Registered massage therapists are those who have graduated from a training program that is recognized by The College of Massage Therapists of Ontario and who maintain active registration in this college. The College is a regulatory body whose mandate is to protect the public and make sure that massage therapists are competent, ethical, keeping up-to-date, and practicing according to recommended guidelines. Benefit programs will only cover massage if it is provided by a registered massage therapist.

9. What is your cancellation policy?

We normally allow cancellations by telephone up to 24 hours in advance. Of course the more notice you can give us the better. If you provide us with less than 24 hours notice we reserve the right to charge a cancellation fee of twenty dollars if we are unable to fill your spot.

10. How long is a massage?

Our sessions are normally one hour long. Half-hour sessions are also available. Please see our services and fees page for comparative pricing.

11. Do you use oil?

Oil is sometimes used, but is completely optional.

12. Can I bring my child? My dog? My partner?

We do not provide child care. We do have a quiet lounge area where quiet, well-behaved children could theoretically sit and colour or read while waiting. You are welcome to bring your young child into the room with you, but keep in mind that this is likely to diminish your ability to relax. The same policy holds for partners. Some couples enjoy the opportunity to come in for an appointment together, and we do offer this option. Please contact us for more information if you are interested. We allow seeing-eye dogs only.

13. Do you take massage students?

Not at the present time.

14. Are you looking for staff?

We may have some opportunities available for RMTs interested in evening or weekend hours. Please contact us if you are interested.

15. Do you have gift certificates?

We do have gift certificates in any denomination you wish to purchase. They are good for one year from the time of purchase.

16. Is Reflexology covered by benefit programs?

Generally not, unless you have a very progressive plan.
